About APSR

The Asia Pacific Society of Rheology (APSR) is a regional society that aims to foster international collaboration in rheology across the Asia-Pacific region. APSR was established on July 23rd, 2025, at the Asia Pacific Rim Conference of Rheology held in Kobe, JAPAN. This conference followed the sequence of 8 Pacific Rim Conferences on Rheology, which began in Kyoto in 1994, as proposed by the late Professor Toshio Masuda of Kyoto University. Then in Melbourne (1997), Vancouver (2001), Shanghai (2005), Sapporo (2010), Melbourne (2014), Jeju Island (2018), and Vancouver (2023). As rheology across the region grew, many senior members of the community felt there was a need for a wider umbrella organization, both to promote rheology and to coordinate between national societies. The Indian Society of Rheology joined the other 5 societies associated with the PRCR, and discussions commenced on forming the APSR, its constitution, membership, and activities. The founding societies comprise The Australian Society of Rheology, The Canadian Society of Rheology, The Chinese Society of Rheology, The Indian Society of Rheology, The Society of Rheology, Japan, and The Korean Society of Rheology. See the constitution.
